Lesson 2
Key Idea 1: Ice Cores - The Key to Historical Climates
What are ice cores? Where are they collected from?
Ice cores are long cylinders of ice that are drilled out of glaciers and permanent polar ice sheets, where ice builds up year after year without melting. Most cores come from Antarctica, Greenland, or high altitudes in the Andes and Himalayas. For more information about how ice cores are obtained and analyzed, click here.
